Aurender N20 is a high-end music server and streamer designed for systems where the digital source is expected to perform at a reference level. It sits above the N200 and brings many of Aurender’s flagship ideas into a more compact single-chassis format.

The N20 is a dedicated digital transport, not a DAC. It is designed to store, manage and output music to an external digital-to-analogue converter with maximum stability, low noise and precise timing. This makes it a natural choice for serious two-channel systems built around a high-quality standalone DAC.

Compared with simpler streamers, the N20 offers a wider range of digital outputs and stronger system flexibility. It provides USB Audio, AES/EBU, BNC coaxial, RCA coaxial and optical TosLink outputs, allowing it to work with many different DAC designs and connection preferences.

For systems that benefit from external clocking, the N20 also includes a word clock input. Its SPDIF and AES/EBU outputs are controlled by OCXO clocking, giving the unit a more advanced digital output architecture than entry-level music servers.

The N20 includes a dedicated 480GB NVMe SSD for system operation and music caching, together with 8GB system memory. Music is cached before playback, reducing activity from the storage drives during listening and helping the unit behave like a purpose-built audio source rather than a computer.

For local library storage, the N20 provides two rear-panel 2.5-inch drive bays for user-installable SSD or HDD storage. This means the unit can be used either mainly as a streamer or as a complete local music library server, depending on the system and the listener’s collection.

Network connection is handled through a double-isolated Gigabit Ethernet interface, designed to reduce network-related noise before it enters the audio circuitry. Control is handled through the Aurender Conductor app, with support for local library playback, streaming services and Roon Ready digital-output operation.

The front panel features a large 8.8-inch wide IPS colour display for album artwork and playback information. The machined aluminium chassis, linear power supply architecture and supercapacitor-based UPS system make the N20 a serious long-term digital source for high-resolution audio systems.

The Aurender N20 is a strong choice for listeners who want a major step above compact one-box streamers, but do not need the full multi-chassis architecture of the N30SA or N50. It offers a refined balance of digital output quality, local storage flexibility, clocking options and Aurender’s dedicated music-server platform.
