Originally recorded in 1964 and released in 1965, the album presents a four-part suite built around devotion, discipline, improvisation and spiritual intensity. With McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Elvin Jones on drums, Coltrane creates a deeply unified statement that remains central to modal jazz and spiritual jazz.
